Jean Paul Gaultier rents out vintage pieces and unveils a punk-inspired collection
While Jean Paul Gaultier is currently presenting an exhibition on fashion and cinema at the Cinémathèquethe iconoclastic designer has completely redesigned his online sales platform, offering a new rental service for its vintage and an original collection inspired by the punk movement, accompanied by other exclusive pieces.
After inviting five of the most talented designers of their generation to revisit its heritage for the duration of a collection, Jean Paul Gaultier is entering a new field: renting out its vintage pieces. For the first time, fans of the designer will be able to rent for a week one of his most iconic pieces, from a catalog of 30,000 archival creations, including the famous “cage” dress with its conical-breasted bustier. To celebrate this brand-new vintage rental service, the designer is also unveiling a new unisex collection inspired by punk, a movement that has been close to his heart since the very beginning.
Entitled “Les Punks”, the collection, staged in a campaign by New York duo TORSO, draws inspiration from the house’s iconic archives, including mesh pieces, tartan, sailor suits and trompe-l’œil silhouettes. These include T-shirts printed with the Jean Paul Gaultier logo – ranging for the first time from 12 months to 4XL – yellow or blue checked suits, tops printed with the face of the Mona Lisa and oversized knits with a grunge allure.
The collection also includes a selection of jewelry imagined by Stéphanie D’Heygere, reinventing the use of a razor blade or even a safety pin on lobes or around fingers. The new wardrobe also includes a range of ten perfectos customized in collaboration with Schott by the company’s workshops, with multiple spray and stencil prints. Finally, a short selection of vintage pieces was also put on sale to mark the launch of the rental service, including dresses, pants and jackets dating back to the 90s.
The “Les Punks” collection, ten perfectos and vintage pieces are available at jeanpaulgaultier.com.
